General information
- MALAYSIA Global Ballet Scholarship (MGBS) is open to dancers of all nationalities, ages 8 and above.
- Participants must enter the competition representing a school with exceptions made for participants above 21.
- A participant’s age is determined strictly as of 31st December 2026. (Kindly refer to ‘Age and Category classification)
- Participants may decide to enter one category above their age group should they deem suitable.
- Partipants may enter the competition as soloists, part of an Ensemble, in a Pas de Deux entry, or any combination of these.
- Participants in the Ensemble or Pas de Deux category are not limited to their years of age, as long as the average age of the dancers in the Ensemble or Pas de Deux falls between their registered category. (To find the average, add up the age of all participants and divide it by the number of participants in the entry)
- If there is a clash due to multiple registrations, please email us 3 weeks BEFORE the competition starts.
- MGBS reserves the right to restrict the number of events a participant attends, or decline any registration at MGBS discretion.
- Professional dancers are not permitted to compete in MGBS. This includes full-time employed dancers/ teachers (apprentices included) with a professional dance school/ company, even if they are currently not contractually employed but have been in the past.
- We encourage MGBS participants, parents and teachers to check the website and follow MGBS on all social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram) for latest news on registration and information updates.

Important notes
- This is a non-refundable fee that guarantees the participants’ place in the competition and includes complimentary masterclasses offered by MGBS.
- All categories except Category 1, will be graded for scholarship purposes.
- Please include you FULL NAME and CATEGORY in your payment proof.
- Ensure FULL PAYMENT is banked in.
- To qualify for the finals, each participants must perform at least one variation from the repertoire list provided by MGBS.

Classical Ballet dance Attire
- Practise tutu / ballet skirts
- Tutu / skirt should align well with the characteristic style of the chosen variation
- Type of tutu, colour and materials used (sparkles, flower, props) should be taken into considerations too
- Leotard and GREY tights for male participants

Contemporary dance Attire
- Leotards
- Short pants, tights
- Appropriate shoes suitable for the choreography

BALLET GRADED masterclass dance Attire

variation rulings
- All solo participants have a choice in performing in one or both of the following divisions with one or more entries.
- Young dancers’ safety is a priority, and specific pointe guidelines are set:
- Dancers aged 10 and under are strictly prohibited from performing en pointe and are ineligible for Top 3 placement if they do.
- Dancers aged 11 are strongly discouraged from performing en pointe.
- Participants from Category 3 (age 13 – 14) have an option to perform en pointe or on flat.
- Participants from Category 4 and 5 (age 15 and above) are compulsory to perform en pointe.
- Participants dancing a variation out of the Variation List will not be eligible for any Top 3 placement.
- In each category, the MGBS Jury Panel will evaluate dancers in consideration of their specific age group. We strongly recommend that all participants carefully:
- Select their variation(s) that is appropriate for their age and skill level.
- Variation selected must be below 2:30 except for Ensemble/ Group
CLASSICAL BALLET
- Must be chosen from the MGBS Classical Variation List according to the category
- Slight adjustments to the original choreography are premitted based on the dancer’s technical level

- Any original works choreographed
- Music in this category is not limited to only instrumental tracks and may contain appropriate lyrics

- If any entry music exceeds the allotted time limit, may result in point deduction or disqualification.
- Participants are NOT permitted to purchase additional time
MUSIC SUBMISSION
Its the Dancer/Guardian reponsibility to ensure the music is uploaded. MGBS is not liable for any error during the process of uploading.
What format to use for submission?
MUST be in .mp3 format.
When to submit the music?
Kindly download during registration (October 1st 2026 – 31st December 2026).
When will be the DEADLINE for Music Submission?
- Deadline will be 31st December 2025 as per Registration Deadline.
- NO music submitted after 28th February 2026 will result in registration being voided.
- There will be no refund.
Must we label our music file? How to label?
Yes, please make sure to name your music file(s) as follow;
- Solo – Participant Name/ Category/ Name of Dance
- Ensemble/Group – School Name/ Category/ Name of Dance
Will there be penalty for LATE Submission/ Change of Music?
Absolutely! Music submission/ any changes of music between January 1st 2026 to February 28th 2026 will be penalised accordingly:
- Solo – RM150 per variation/ per change
- Ensemble/Group – RM200 per variation/ per change
props

Considerations will be greatly appreciated!
- As backstage space is limited, MGBS reminds choreographers, teachers and participants that backstage space is often limited, hence limiting the use of props to the absolute minimum.
- All props that participants wish to use are used at participants’ own risk. MGBS is not responsible for any injury or incident resulting from a participants’ use of props of their choice.
- MGBS does not provide storage for any props.
- MGBS does not provide any assistance with the movement of props either on and off stage. Both the storage and the movement of props on and off stage are the responsibility of the participant.
- MGBS does not provide assistance with any shipping or cleaning of props before or after a competition, on or off stage.
- MGBS is not responsible for any lost props.
- All props must be approved no later than 31st January, 2026. To approve the usage of props at the MGBS Preliminary and Finals, please add in the ‘Notes’ section during registration.
penalties & refund policy
- MGBS is not liable for registration fees paid twice and refund will not be offered.
- Credit to carry forward to 2027:
- Only applicable to INJURED participants accompanied by an official letter from a certified doctor (family doctor’s letter will not be sufficient and not accepted) with an official letterhead, inked signature and doctor’s stamp no later than 1 week prior to the competition first date.
- If the participant failed to notify 7 days before the competition, the registration and administration fees will be forfeited, with the exception of emergency situations.
- Should the participant fail to attend due to ILLNESS, registration and administration fees will be transferred to MGBS 2027. Official docto’s letter must be provided.

Do you allocate Teacher’s Pass?
Yes, we do.
How many Teacher’s Pass will you allocate?
We will allocate 1(one) complimentary Teacher’s Pass for every 5 students per school.
I am registering 12 students, do I get 3 passes?
We are sorry! We will only allocate a maximum of 2(two) complimentary Teacher Pass for each school.
My dancers are taught by 4 teachers and they need to be inside backstage to help the dancers?
Not to worry, we do offer additional Teacher Pass at RM200/pass. (Its valid for the entire competition EXCEPT for Teachers’ Feedback Workshop)
Is the Teacher’s Pass accessible to the Theatre for all sessions?
Teacher’s Pass is only accessible for their students session in the theatre. Teachers may watch from theatre but only for their respective dancers’ sessions. This will include dancers’ graded masterclasses and performance (Preliminary and Finals)
What if other teachers watch the sessions which their dancers are not participating?
All Teacher’s Pass will be labelled and controlled. We will try to ensure only the respective teachers are allowed into the theatre. We have trust and faith in the teacher’s ethic.
Does a teacher need to purchase the Teacher’s Pass everyday?
Each Teacher’s Pass is offered at RM200 per pass. The pass is valid for the entire competition.
Can a parent purchase a Teacher’s Pass?
We strongly disagree. Parents are not permitted backstage and in the dressing room area. We trust the parents will be understanding.
Where and When do I collect my Teacher’s Pass?
Teacher Pass will be ready for collection on the 1st day of the competition. It will be kept at the Welcome Desk!
Can I ask my collegue/ dancers to collect my Teacher’s Pass?
Preferably NOT! All passes will only be granted to specific teacher(s) on our list and will be verified by the collector.
Can I join the Teachers’ Feedback Experiential Workshop for free with the Teacher’s Pass?
As we are a non-profit entity, we can only offer a 50% privilege for teachers with dancers participating in ‘2026 2nd MGBS’
Can I observe the Teachers’ Experiential Workshop with the Teachers’ Pass?
We are sorry, it is not allowed. Teacher’s Experiential Workshop is a closed door event. It is strictly for registered teachers only. Only teachers who registered for the workshop will be allowed in the theatre.

- A complete score sheets will be provided only upon written request to our email for a fees of RM30 for each piece.

- The MGBS jury reserves the right not to present all of the announced awards
